Which reads in English: "Debbie Gibson prepares for the role of Eponine in the American musical version of 'Les Miserables'. The pop-singer will be debuting as an actress at January 7th, she will be playing at Broadway for 3 months. Debbie auditioned five years ago. Apparently she made a big impression, because when the role recently became available, the directors remembered Debbie. It is possible the Debbie will also play the role in London, next summer." It stars Carl Weathers, best known for playing Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" movies. Next weeks filming will start on an episode in which DEBBIE GIBSON plays a rock star. The episode will air sometime in January. I'll pass along any more info if/when I hear anything. [Editor's Note: According to Felix Ng, Deb will be in Vancouver for the filming of this episode. Supposedly, Deb will be in one or two scenes.] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= DEBBIE THE MODERN BRIDE Sandy Chen (ez003229@othello.ucdavis.edu) November 17, 1991 As stated in the last issue of BTL, Debbie Gibson appeared on the cover of the Dec/Jan issue of _Modern Bride_. In that issue, there is an article on page 54 describing (in great detail) the makeup that she was wearing and the dress that she modeled. A tiny bio and a list of her plans for the coming year were also in the article. The only thing that I found interesting about the article was that it mentioned that Deb and Karen (her sister) had just finished writing their first comedy screen-play together, so we might see them under Hollywood's bright lights soon. Anyway, there were a few things about this issue of _Modern Bride_ that bothered me: - The purpose for Debbie's appearance on the cover was for her to model a wedding dress. Unfortunately, the picture only showed her left side from the shoulders up, which accounts for maybe 10% of the dress. No other pictures of Debbie were found in the magazine (page 56 had a picture of another model with the same dress, however). San Martin, makers of the dress that she wore, had the gall to mention Debbie's name in their advertisements. It sure would've been nice if they had a more complete picture of Deb in that dress (instead of just a facial shot). Deb is not known for modeling, but that is no excuse. - The article mentioned that Debbie's sister Karen got married on September 14th of this year, and that Deb sang "One Hand, One Heart" at the ceremony. In reality, Karen was married in 1988 and "Lost in Your Eyes" was the song that was featured (it's not known if Deb actually sang it), so this is a BIG mistake. Perhaps Deb attended some other marriage ceremony (maybe her sister Michele got married)? Does anyone have any information on this? - Other mistakes: They referred to Diane as Debbie's sister. Diane is Debbie's MOTHER. They stated that her tour ended in Los Angeles, when in reality it ended in Concord, CA. In closing, I would like to say that I found Debbie's picture on _Modern Bride_ to be amusing. Things could've been better if they had used more relevant pictures and had been more careful in their research! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= DEBBIE IN US MAGAZINE Archie Medrano (archie@teetot.acusd.edu) November 21, 1991 There's a photo shot of Christian Slater with Debbie Gibson on page 8 of the December issue of US magazine. Here is the caption: RUBBER MADE "They have sort of a replica of a machine-gun thing from Mobsters here", said Christian Slater (posing with Debbie Gibson). "If you go up and feel it, it's not made out of metal, it's made out of rubber. I've let the world know now, but that's the way it is." =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= DEBBIE IN BILLBOARD MAGAZINE Constantinos A. Caroutas (cc433336@longs.LANCE.ColoState.Edu) November 22, 1991 There is a picture of Debbie Gibson on page 62 of the 23 November issue of Billboard magazine. It is from some public social event. Debbie has official creditation for 5 of the 12 songs, and out of those 5 she is credited with : * Producing and Arranging all 5 * Drums on 2 * Keyboards on 4 * Piano on 1 * Background Vocals on 3 With the other 7 songs, even though there is no official accreditation given, Debbie's influence is quite apparent, especially (IMO) in the strongest song on the album, the title-track itself. It is a song I can imagine Debbie herself doing (or maybe that should read `could have done', considering her change in image). Chances are that if the title-track doesn't appeal to you, then the rest of the album won't. But I'd recommend it if you just want to get it because of Deb appearing on and behind the album. Goodbye until whenever, Robert Barber [Editor's Note: It is vacation time for students in Australia so Robert will not have Internet access for at least the next three months. Also note that this album doesn't seem to be available in North America at this time.] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= YOUTHQUAKE'S DEBSTER UPDATE Sandy Chen (ez003229@othello.ucdavis.edu) November 17, 1991 November 9th's Top Volume segment of Youthquake featured an informal interview with Debbie Gibson. The interview took place on a horse drawn carriage in Central Park, NY. Youthquake's host, Jennifer, did the honors of finding out "What Debbie's been doing?" Deb wore a black beret and a Brooklyn Dodgers' shirt. Jennifer started things out by asking Deb about her short hairstyle. I'm sure that Deb is starting to get tired with all these questions about her hair (just about every interviewer asks her about it; I'm surprised that she doesn't say "Where have you been?" since she's had this style for a while now). She replied by saying that she had long hair all of her life and it was a nice change; it was especially nice on tour because when her hair was long she would come out drenched, looking like a heavy metal rocker. I have a feeling that she is going to grow some of that hair back if she wants to look like Eponine in Les Miserables. The interview then got a bit personal when Jennifer asked Deb about her dating life; specifically, what she looks for in a guy. Deb answered by saying that she doesn't know what she's looking for, and that's why she's in a "dating mode" (she's dated guys that were long haired, preppy, younger, older, etc.). When asked what she likes to do on dates, Deb said that she liked to *bowl* (maybe that's why she's having dating problems). Deb also said that people consider her to be like "every guy's friend" or "sister"; she believes that she can be sexy just like any other girl. Deb then turned the tables on Jennifer by asking her how *her* love life was. Jennifer's response: "Aw, it sucks!" Things ended with Deb and Jennifer saying that they were going to look for some guys in Central Park. Matt Dillon was supposed to be making a movie there... [Editor's Note: The majority of this interview was filmed in black and white] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ONE STEP AHEAD TOUR STATS Felix Ng (fng@arkham.wimsey.bc.ca) November 4, 1991 Here's some information you people may be interested in: Income(Gross) Seats Sold Seats Avail. The stage was in the middle of the theatre with 20-30 rows of seating all the way around. The show was scheduled to start at 7:00 PM, but it was postponed until 8:00 PM. The announcer came out and gave away two Caboodles. Then he introduced the opening act, Chris Cuevas. Chris performed six songs from his album and received a good response from about 50% of the audience. His ballad, "You Are The One" really won them over, especially since the majority had never heard of him before that night. During the last song, "Hip Hop," I handed him a t-shirt that I had made for him. This was the first time I had seen Chris perform live, and I was thoroughly impressed by his energy and interaction with the audience. After another twenty minute wait, the lights went down again. The music of "One Step Ahead" started and the four dancers were on the stage. Debbie sang the bridge then the rap before entering the theatre and making her way down the aisle to the stage. Her microphone went out for a moment, but she only missed two lines. She was wearing black sequined pants, a light yellow frill shirt underneath a gold/multi-colored cape-like jacket. Debbie then went to her piano to perform "Another Brick Falls." I think the show loses a bit of its initial energy when she has to sit down and play. But, Debbie showed us her undeniable piano playing talents by accompanying herself to this fast song. Jade, the dancer, joined Debbie for "Shake Your Love" which led right into "Out of the Blue." I was disappointed that she shortened my favorite song by omitting the second verse. Then Debbie did a doo-wop version of "Only In My Dreams." I still prefer this song with a long intro and as one of the ending songs of the show like she has done on previous tours. Debbie introduced the next song as one she wrote about believing in young people - "Electric Youth." I didn't like the less powerful arrangement although I liked the change in choreography so that Debbie doesn't have to stop singing. Next, Debbie asked the audience, "How many of you are in love?" She stated that she was not and had to pretend while she sand "One Hand, One Heart." Debbie added that the song was for Casey Magnan who was in the audience that night. Debbie followed one ballad about being in love with one about being out of love "Sure." These were the only two songs Debbie performed from the Mood Swings side of her new album. I wish she would have sung more Mood Swings ballads, like the second single "This So-Called Miracle." After the four minute dancers' break, Chris Cuevas returned to sing the duet "Someday." After the first chorus, Debbie, wearing a short, red sequined dress, joined Chris. I always thought that this song should have a bridge, but otherwise, the combined harmony between their voices was simply beautiful. Immediately following, Deborah sang "No More Rhyme." Debbie decided it was time to "pick the pace back up" with a medley of Lamont Dozier's songs. I always like how Debbie can put new life into old songs. Next was "It Must've Been My Boy" complete with dancer Herby Sanchez as Debbie's 'boy'. I thought they were a little too close, however the shirtless dancers were way too much. Debbie then left the stage to change while the band jammed. Debbie returned in her all black "Elvis outfit" to perform "Reverse Psychology." Again, I liked the choreography and how she did the chant part really well. Then she did "Lead Them Home My Dreams" which she told us she's only performed a couple times in concert. Next, things slowed down as Debbie performed her first number one song "Foolish Beat" while sitting on a black stool. Debbie then proceeded to introduce the band members who were in the pit because the stage was too small. The band jammed for a few moments then stopped dramatically. Along with the back-up singers, Debbie sang the chorus a cappella to start "Anything Is Possible." I liked how she extended the "Oo-oo" part, displaying her strong vocal ability. After the song, Debbie bid us goodnight. After a few minutes, Debbie returned for the encore. She explained, "I want to do a brand new song for you that I've never performed before, but I'm a little nervous..." This dreamy ballad that I call "'Til you Come Back Again" was absolutely the most beautiful song, especially with the music-box-like piano accompaniment. Debbie also made her ballet debut during the instrumental break with Herby Sanchez. Following that, Deb performed "On My Own" from her favorite musical "Les Miserables." As I watched, I saw her in the role of Eponine and believed she was actually feeling the words she was singing. I think this was the best performed song of the show. Next, Debbie performed another new song, "Heart And Soul." This was followed by "Lost In Your Eyes." Then Debbie picked out fans from the audience to come on stage for "We Could Be Together," some of whom she recognized from her tour in Asia! Those last two songs were performed the traditional way, although "We Could Be Together" was not extended. When Debbie was saying good night, she saw my sign that said "See you tomorrow!" Earlier, she had also seen my other sign that read "Life wouldn't be the same without you!", a line from the Japanese song "Without You" because that is exactly how I feel about Debbie. I also attended another show the next day at the Concord Pavilion in Northern California. This show was very similar to the Anaheim show. For the first set, Debbie wore the magenta outfit she wore on the Arsenio Hall show. Because this was the last show of the tour, Debbie explained right before "Shake Your Love" that everyone would be playing jokes on each other. To no avail, all four dancers instead of only Jade danced with Debbie in "Shake Your Love." They even got pom poms to cheer her on! Debbie reacted by telling us "See what I mean!" and told the dancers "Thank you _ladies_!" During the "Out of the Blue" guitar solo Debbie took the keyboardist's big blonde wig and put it on the guitarist. For the dancers' break, in place of the regular music, Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love" started over the sound system. After five seconds, it stopped while a group in the audience yelled, "We want our money back!" The dancers' proceeded with their routine to the regular music only to be interrupted by the band members who paraded across the stage. Next was "Someday." When Debbie came out to sing her verse, Kirk, the blonde dancer, who had dressed exactly like her came out on the other side of the stage so when Chris turned around he saw two "Debbie"s. Deb could hardly keep from laughing. Then, Kirk came back and threw a cream pie at Chris. Fortunately, Chris ducked so it only hit his microphone. Debbie and Chris managed to finish the song but all the jokes had ruined the romantic mood. By the way, Debbie was wearing a short black dress with a cropped gold casino jacket, and Chris was wearing the t-shirt I gave him! Debbie continued with her usual set of songs. The dancers came out during the Motown Medley to join in the fun. During, "It Must've Been My Boy", Diane (Deb's mom) came out and started chasing Herby with a broom! Then some shirtless crew members paraded across the stage instead of the usual dancers. For the third costume change, Debbie wore her usual black tights with the fringed shorts and a black & white frill shirt. The first song for this set was "Electric Youth." She did not sing "Reverse Psychology" or "Lead Them Home My Dreams" at this show. For the first line, "Zappin it to ya," all of the dancers sprayed Debbie with silly string! Everything went along smoothly until... In "Anything Is Possible" there is a dance routine where she 'climbs' the dancers, falls back, then rolls to the floor. This night, instead of picking her up, Buddy turned away with the other dancers, leaving her on the floor! Debbie had been deserted, but she laughed it off by telling them, "Bye-bye!" For the encore, again she started with "Til You Come Back Again" then "On My Own." Then she performed another new piano song entitled "Taken By You" and is as follows: VERSE I You can do no wrong Baby all you have to do is be yourself from [?] It's here in the sun Can't you hear [?] My heart's going out to yours I feel you in my arms I touch your lips in my mind And in my dreams we're always together CHORUS I'm so taken, taken by you Oh baby touch me I'm shaken through and through And I'll never rest easy Til your heart is all mine They say that love is blind Baby forget all you've heard I'm not fakin', I'm so taken so taken by you VERSE II I'm all heart and soul I lose all my strength to you [ ? ] And all the words I heard about my fallin' too Do not [replan], my friend I can't help feeling all emotions 'Cause right now my life depends on how you feel So please say you love me CHORUS So taken by you Next was "Heart and Soul" dedicated to a young boy named Jeffrey who was brought on stage. As usual, the concert ended with "Lost In Your Eyes" and "We Could Be Together." I had been looking forward to seeing Debbie on her One Step Ahead tour all year, and I was not disappointed at all. I feel very fortunate to have been able to see two concerts on this tour, especially the last show - because of all the jokes. I consider Anaheim show as the standard because everything went smoothly and she sang eight songs from the "Anything Is Possible" album. One thing I did not like about Anaheim was the round stage because Debbie could only face part of the audience at one time and I missed a lot of the choreography. The Concord show definitely complimented the Anaheim show. I was able to see all the choreography this time, including her dramatic entrance from hiding behind the dancers. I already knew each song routine so I could appreciate all the end-of-tour pranks, like all four dancers participating in "Shake Your Love." Finally, I was able to hear another brand new song "Taken By You." Because of this excellent combination of shows, I ended that weekend happy and fulfilled, which is hard to come by for a fan like me. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= GRAB THE BRASS RING Myra Wong (mkwong@sdcc13.UCSD.EDU) November 22, 1991 All summer, no, all YEAR I had been waiting for Debbie Gibson to go on tour. On June 30th, after calling BASS/Ticketmaster week after week, tickets would finally be going on sale for an August 26th show at the Concord Pavilion, the same venue Debbie played on her Out Of The Blue tour. Early that morning at 1 AM, I left my house to go wait in line until 10 AM. Believe it or not, I was looking forward to waiting in line!! Such excitement. Shortly after 10 AM, I got a pair of tickets - THIRD row, aisle! GREAT! Now, fast forward to a brisk Sunday morning in the San Francisco Bay Area. I dashed through the Oakland airport and hopped a plane to Ontario airport, in Los Angeles. There, I met fellow-BtL members Matthew Jung, Peter Blomgren, and Shaun Stuart. We all spent the day together, and around 4 PM, we went to the venue, the Anaheim Celebrity Theatre. Within 15 minutes, a van with tinted windows pulled up and out stepped some familiar people - Diane Gibson, Casey Magnan. Then, no more than twenty feet away from me, standing right there was HER - Deborah Gibson - the person I have admired for four years! I admit, I couldn't believe this was all happening. I watched as Debbie greeted her fans and signed autographs. She was wearing a black baseball hat with a silver peace sign, sunglasses, and a white Boulder, CO t-shirt. When it was my turn to talk to Debbie, I gave her the gold wire 'name' necklace I had gotten for her. I said, "This is for you - Happy birthday," and she commented that she liked it. Then I asked her if she would sign my tourbook (that I had obtained in advance); she said, "Sure, what's your name?" Now, the cover of my tourbook says, "To Myra, Thanks for coming to the show, Love + [peace sign], Debbie Gibson." Then we took a picture together. What I remember most about those few moments were how Debbie gave me her undivided attention, and that she really seemed to care. She was very nice and very normal. "Oh, it's like a dream come true!" After Debbie went inside, I saw Buddy Casimano and got his autograph. Then, Chris Cuevas came out and we talked. But this is BtL, so I'll have to save the details about that for another time and place. After the show, I hung out where we had earlier that afternoon, but Debbie never came out that way. So we left, knowing there was another concert ahead for most of us. Monday, August 26th, I flew back to the San Francisco Bay Area with my friend Jennifer and together we attended the last concert of the One Step Ahead tour, at the Concord Pavilion. This venue has high security so we were not able to meet Debbie in the afternoon, like we could at Anaheim. My friend Jennifer was able to get backstage passes, so we picked them up at the box office. We went to the backstage waiting area and it was filled with radio contest winners, who thought they were cool - not because they were meeting Debbie, but because they were winners and could hang out backstage. That kind of annoyed me. Finally, after about half an hour, it was time to go backstage. They took all the pass holders in the first group. We were lead down some stairs and into a medium sized room. The instructions were, you meet Debbie, and have your picture taken together. That's all, no autographs - and go back upstairs after you are done. When Debbie came in the room, everyone met her one by one. She was wearing jeans, a black t-shirt, and had already had her make-up done for the show. When it was my turn to 'meet' Debbie, I went up to her and shook her hand. I could tell she remembered me, so I reminded her that, "I was the one with the 'Without You' sign." She remembered and added, "I saw the shirt you gave Chris," indicating to my Hip Hop t-shirt that I was wearing. I said, "And I have a shirt for YOU," and gave her a black t-shirt that had a white stick figure man proposing to a stick figure girl on it. She held it up to look at it and said she liked it. I handed her the card I had, then we took a picture together. I stayed a little while longer, but then I went back upstairs because the show was starting. Although I didn't have much time to talk to Debbie, I really liked how she remembered me. I am also happy that I got to give her a birthday present in person. Again, she was very nice and really gave me her attention. After the show, we all went to Denny's. In a previous BtL issue, Shaun Stuart had described the whole aura of the rest of that night. I, too, felt something magical that night between all my old and new found friends. Debbie and her music had all brought us together and I believe that these friendships I have made are forever. "...the magic's in the music, and the music's in me." =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= OFFICIAL BTL FTP SITE Bill Jackson (billj@express.seas.smu.edu) November 23, 1991 After reading Jonathan Bradshaw's article in BtL3.12, I began a search for an anonymous FTP site that would be willing to set aside several megabytes of disk space for our use. In lieu of a few rude replies, I found one. In brief, the *OFFICIAL* BtL archive is now in place at cs.uwp.edu (131.210.1.4). Matthew, Jonathan, and I have placed virtually everything we have into the following directories, with more stuff to be added soon: /pub/music/btl /pub/music/btl/archives /pub/music/btl/archives/volume1 /pub/music/btl/archives/volume2 /pub/music/btl/archives/volume3 /pub/music/btl/gifs /pub/music/btl/vocs /pub/music/btl/lyrics /pub/music/btl/misc Files already in the archive include all BtL back issues, .VOC files, most .GIF files (including the DEB*.GIF and the DGIBSON*.GIF series), some lyrics, and the ascii version of the _Between the Lines_ autobiography. Uploads should be placed in the /pub/incoming/btl directory and a brief message sent to Matthew. He and I have experienced transfer rates ranging from 3.5 Kbytes/sec. to a whopping 170 Kbytes/sec. (your mileage may vary). If you have any problems with the archive (such as 'Permission denied' messages), please contact the site's administrator, Dave Datta, at datta@cs.uwp.edu. Another note: Please notice that the files KEYBOARD.GIF, PROFILED.GIF, STAIRS.GIF, HATDANCE.GIF, FOOLISH.GIF, AIPPROMO.GIF, OHOH.GIF, OHOHPRO.GIF, and BLAZER.GIF have been removed from the archive at my request. It is known that many celebrities consult her wisdom. Ronald Reagan used her advice to pick his inauguration and other 'big events' during his presidency. Since it is rumored that Debbie frequently reads horoscopes, I decided to get her's instead so that I could share it with others in BTL. What follows is a summary of the 7-page(!) forecast that Jillson sent to me (Debbie actually). This is the information that I provided: NAME: Deborah A. Gibson (I wonder if she knew who she was dealing with?) BIRTHDATE: August 31, 1970 BIRTHPLACE: Brooklyn, NY MARITAL STATUS: Single I also filled out a mini-questionaire about Debbie's lifestyle to the best of my ability, specifying things like: her good financial status, dating problems, etc. [Editor's Note: The basis for determining your horoscope is the position of the planets relative to when and where you were born. This horoscope summary is provided for your amusement only; we do not guarantee validity to any of the forecasts stated here.] * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * DEBORAH A. GIBSON'S HOROSCOPE FOR DECEMBER 1 - DECEMBER 31 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BASED ON INFORMATION PROVIDED BY ASTROLOGICAL RESEARCH GROUP OF AMERICA, INC. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * LUCKY NUMBERS When comparing her birth date with the Transiting Planets for the month, the following lucky numbers popped up for Debbie: 09, 13, 15, 21, 25, 27, 33, 37, 39 TRENDS In December, there will be short-term influences that suggest a tendency for Debbie to go overboard in her enthusiasm to gain some personal goal. She may take things too much for granted, expecting perhaps that others will be only too happy to do things for her. She may attach too much importance in her own opinions, believing that others share them, when in fact, they may not. Deb should avoid arguments and physical confrontations, and she shouldn't turn her home into a battle ground, especially around the 17th-20th. Such negative situations are likely to be a big waste of her time and energy since they are likely to soon disappear. ROMANTIC POWER Debbie's personal chart indicates that from December 1 to December 2, she will be appreciated by friends and associates for her fun and good nature. December 8 to December 9 is her big love period, so she should get ready to make the best of it [ed. note: this is your chance, guys...]. From December 30 to December 31, she should be on guard for those clever fast-talking attractive men who can sweep her off her feet with their spirited talk. NEW BEGINNINGS The dynamic energy of the New Moon influencing Deb's personal chart in December is focused on family relationships and her domestic environment. Though this lunar aspect urges her to put increased efforts info these particular areas, some of the planetary patterns suggest that it is a good idea to hold off until after the 20th before starting a new venture of any kind. However, there is plenty of encouragement for her to spend more time with her family, and to take care of household chores and repairs that she's been neglecting. TURNING POINTS Intense discussions or disagreements with supervisors or family members may be what concerns Deb as the Full Moon influences her personal chart from December 20-22. Urgent domestic chores may have to be taken care of, changes in living arrangements may have to be made, and questions regarding long-range goals may have to be addressed. CAREER Jillson believes that Debbie will be given the challenge of a new assignment and she will come through with flying colors. This may lead to a new office and change in work assignment. Debbie needs to make sure that she has the skills for these tasks before she agrees on taking them on. She shouldn't do anything half way; she should go all out for that big contract or assignment. She needs to prove herself by putting all her eggs in the basket and coming through. This is a test which may create friction with jealous associates. FAMILY LIFE Jillson advises Debbie to stop and take a long hard look at herself and where she stands when it comes to her relationship with her family. She should clear up any disagreements and reach out to relatives, even with those who are living faraway. Who knows? If Debbie really does believe in Astrology, then maybe she has a copy of this already. It would be interesting to see what she does on the dates mentioned above. A number of things that were pointed out appear to be relevant, such as her family problems (in the John Tesh interview, Deb said that she had trouble keeping in touch with her father), and upcoming job change (theatre work in Les Miz). Since Deb admits to having dating problems (Youthquake), maybe she should "go for it" on the 8th or 9th :-). Now, back to reality... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SONG POLL REMINDER Sandy Chen (ez003229@othello.ucdavis.edu) November 22, 1991 I would like to remind everyone that we are conducting a song poll here at BTL. BTL subscribers who have voted already should have received an acknowledgement from us by now. If not, please resend your vote. I am extending the vote deadline to January 1, 1992. Those of you who haven't voted yet are encouraged to do so. This is our most ambitious poll attempt to date, and it requires everyone's participation in order to succeed. I am surprised that I have not heard from many of the big fans that regularly participate in BTL. This is a group effort and everyone's vote counts! This is also an opportunity for those of you who have never submitted an article to BTL to voice your opinions and participate. It's easy! All you have to do is send me a list of your FOUR favorite Debbie Gibson songs, ranked from #1 (most favorite) to #4. No commentary is required (if you want to comment though, please do so -- we'll include your comments in a separate BTL article). Voter identities will remain anonymous, unless you want your comments published. For more details on this song poll, see BTL #3.13. Send all votes to: ez003229@othello.ucdavis.edu Results will be announced in BTL #4.1 (January 1992). =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Q. Eldon Beard (71541.475@CompuServe.COM) About 1-2 years ago, I read that Deb had recorded a version of "Silent Night" and that this was played on a station someplace up north. My question is, do you know if a recording is available? A. Matthew Jung (mjung@bloom.ucdavis.edu) There exists a promo cassette of "Silent Night" which was distributed to some radio stations in the United States. It was aired during the holiday season in 1988 and some people have reported hearing it in such places as Oregon and Massachusetts. There also exists another Christmas song which Deb recorded with her father which was given airplay. In Deb's own words from her "Between the Lines" autobiography: In fact, he and I recorded "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" on my 12-track re- corder at home at Christmas time last year, and it was in "heavy rotation" on New York radio stations during the holidays. People were calling in and asking where they could buy the record, and meanwhile it was just this little demo that I had done with him. He sounds real good on it! Unlike "Silent Night," it isn't believed that this demo tape made it to radio stations outside the New York area. If anyone has a copy of this, please let us know. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= CLOSING REMARKS According to Ivo Kroone, the Youthquake episode featuring Deb will be on Europe's "Super Channel" this week. Debbie Gibson promo Pro Set Musicards (see BtL 3.10) are available from Samuel Lau (samuel@uushop.cuc.ab.ca). Contact him if you're interested. Les Miserables will begin on January 7th and end on March 29th. To order tickets at the Imperial Theater, you can call 212-239-6200 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Orchestra seating will cost $60 plus a $4 service charge. Deb will not be around from Feb 12th to 16th (she may be fulfilling her obligation to Sands hotel in Atlantic City on President's day weekend so here is your chance to see her in concert if you haven't yet) so please do not purchase Les Miserables tickets then unless you want to see a different Eponine. Reviews of Deborah's performance as Eponine will be appreciated. Depending on how many submissions we get within the next two weeks, there may not be a December issue of BtL. Matthew Jung be leaving for Christmas break on December 14th and probably won't be back until early January. Please continue to send immediate release info to Sandy Chen though.
