Keep the water out. Remember paper and water are only immiscible if they are kept separately. 2. Girlfriends and Debbie must have their separate (note clear distinction) places in our hearts. No bleeding allowed. 3. Collecting Debbie stuff is allowed and encouraged, as so long as there is sufficient monetary funds to maintain efficient collection rates. 4. Writing songs/poems to her are also allowed. Make sure that only a few find out about this; otherwise, you're bound to have water in your face. (worse yet, pie in the face is slightly more messy) Addendum : These instructions should be carried out under the strictest of conditions. However, since there is no clear authoritative way of maintaining the "ethereal" set of conditions, we may be so kind as to completely disband with tradition and be totally wild, flexible and truly dedicated to the "(Debbie) Gibson cause". And with what current trends seem to indicate, a real sense of what it means to be a "Debbie fan" may need a better definition. But that's just me talking. I in no way here represent opinions of anybody else in BtL. "I wanna relax but I don't know how ..." Last month EY was having "you decide what to do with $50,000." type contest. Seeing this I took a handful of these write-ins. Here is what it entails: It mostly asks what would like to with $50,000? There was one of four things that the money could go to: 1) help fight drug and alcohol abuse 2) help protect the environment 3) help the homeless 4) help prevent child abuse This voter's ballot is still good till April 30, 1990. Then on the 30th of June, the money, that we voted on, will be distributed in proportion the the number of votes cast. I think this was a good idea, but since it didn't last very long at the place I work, I might have about 20 copies. I am willing to release 10 of these to anyone who wants one. But don't quote me on the 20, I'll just release half of what I own. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Henry Lee (hlee@cc.sfu.ca) GIBSON BILLBOARD STANDING As one of the resident BtL "Hitmen", it is my "duty" to inform you where Deborah Gibson placed in year end Billboard categories. In it ELECTRIC YOUTH was tested. Here is what they wrote. ---------- DEBBIE GIBSON ELECTRIC YOUTH (Cologne) RATING 5.5 (out of 10) $11 for .96 oz One man's Meed is another man/s Persian: Bergman smelled "fresh strawberries"; Seinfeld could think of nothing but "cherry Luden's cough drops." Gile's response suggest that ELECTRIC YOUTH's chemists have pinpointed their market with uncanny accuracy: "It smells like the perfect scent for a sixth grader who likes gum...It reminds me of candy and acne." Linn was kindest, describing Gibson's cologne as the liquefied essence of a Southern belle with "a big hat, a white chiffon dress and a parasol." Sgt. Joe Friday yawned. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Henry Lee (hlee@cc.sfu.ca) US MAGAZINE TOP 10 SINGLES OF '89 "US" Year End Double Issue December 25, 1989 - January 8, 1990 page 72. A majority of her favorite songs for 1988 and 1989 were by heavy metal acts, same with her album picks. Debbie also is a big fan of SKID ROW! (Atlantic Records) Debbie has mentioned SKID ROW several times in articles and interviews. Debbie likes Billy Joel. Debbie likes SKID ROW. Billy Joel HATES SKID ROW. (Tower PULSE) SKID ROW HATES Debbie. In LA, SKID ROW (opening for Aerosmith), constantly was making ugly remarks against Debbie Gibson. This is not the first time. In SALT LAKE CITY, Sebastian Bach was putting down Debbie Gibson "like every two minutes" (ROCK SCENE magazine). This is the KICK DEBBIE GIBSON WHILE SHE'S DOWN TOUR! There's nothing Debbie can do! Since they are both label-mates, Debbie has her hands tied... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Andrew Jay Shurak (as4d+@andrew.cmu.edu) GOING ONS FROM ANDREW SHURAK Yeah, I'm here, I got you're message. As long as I'm writing, here's the deal about me and Norman Eliaser. Were are perhaps the only Top40 fans on this entire overworked campus. Most people listen to 70's rock, or nothing at all; many are into new wave whatever or farther; rap and metal are near nonexistent. Both me and Norman like some Top40 but dislike a lot of the commercial garbage that denigrates the airwaves and gives true talent like Debbie, Duran Duran, and Kylie Minogue a bad rep. Norman is a sophomore math major; I'm a junior applied math major. We both survived the highly overrated Bronx H.S. of science in NY; pass the word that we're OK to any Sciencites out in UMich. Gotta run, cause there's reasons why this is the most stressful campus in America (Wall St. Journal), and I've got plenty of them. Make Debbie, not Monty Python Andrew Shurak ps - if you've heard of a club called "KGB" over the net, I'm in there too. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Amin Kamadoli (kamadoli%castor.usc.edu@usc.edu) DEB'S NOMINATIONS FOR A N.A.R.M. Oh, through work I was able to find out more about ANA. The album is called BODY LANGUAGE. It will be released APRIL 9, 1990. The first single, "GOT TO TELL YOU SOMETHING," will be released in the 3rd week of March. I should be recieving my promo album soon. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Henry Lee (hlee@cc.sfu.ca) DEBBIE IN THE NEWS TO my BtL friends all over : I've told Matthew and Steve about this but I thought it was only fair for me to let you know, too. This piece of mail concerns a couple of pictures that I saw in current magazines and ... and ... a "Gibson Death Threat". 1. Billboard - February 17th, 1990 Issue page 86 bottom : Deb presenting homemade cookies to Atlantic's CEO and to Atlantic's Chair to celebrate Atlantic's 40th and her multi-platinum Electric Youth album. 2. Rolling Stone - March 8th, 1990 issue (Mick & Keith on the cover / Readers' & Critics' Choices for Best and Worst of 1989) approx 5 or 6 page layout re. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in New York City on Wed January 17th, 1990 page 13 bottom : Deb in white blouse (no makeup, looking rather plain but oh so nice) with Terrence Trent D'Arby Friday, February 23rd, 1990 >From the MuchMusic news program "FAUX" shown at 4pm, 8pm and 4am (next day) PST : Now, since our VCR just HAD to choke that day, thankfully I had my AIWA recording walkman around. Of course, it meant that I had to get up at 4am to record the news item. In any case, I have the news item aired on TV recorded on tape. FAUX started with the Australian Earthquake Benefit held for the Newcastle victims, then went on to the Stevie Wonder lawsuit (which he won, by the way) By segueway, the third item mentioned another lawsuit ... The third news item entered in partway through the "Electric Youth" video with the headline (on screen) "Gibson Death Threat". VERBATIM (Host : Kim Clarke Champniss) "In another lawsuit, criminal charges have been filed against a man who wrote a letter threatening the life of Debbie Gibson. Richard Pelfrey (sp?), 37 years of age, said he would kill the teen singer, if she performed in (Cuyahoga Falls), Ohio. Gibson did perform last September, but without incident. If found guilty, Pelfrey (sp) faces a maximum charge of 20 years in jail and a $250,000 fine." I'm not Entirely sure about the location (Cuyahoga Falls). Champniss pronounced it "Koe-ah-hi-oh Falls" and the closest thing to that in my handy-dandy World Book Encyclopedia under "O" for Ohio listed Cuyahoga Falls which is, I believe, pretty close to Dayton (or some major Ohio city, anyway). Anyhow, when we were talking about the "stalker" in Los Angeles last month at the AMA's, this news item might be about the same thing or something entirely different. Whatever the case may be, some nuthead got caught and it's a relief to me nonetheless. It sure made my weekend. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Henry Lee (hlee@cc.sfu.ca) D.G.I.F. RELEASE Hey, folks !!!! She's out! Well, actually, I mean volume 2 #2 from DGIF. Got it last night; and on the exterior package, it's got a stamp from (one of) the Long Island post offices .... A silhouette (sp?) of Long Island with "Long Island NY 117 - Feb 14 PM 1990" My god! It only took a week to get here! Not bad, pas mal at all. Within, lots of pictures to keep us happy for awhile longer! Her "teen" image is totally totally gone with her now really shoulder-length hair and very very good looking face. (Still, all that gunk on her face is a wee bit unflattering, it seems. Alas ...) Also, she does acknowledge that "as some of 'us' know by now, the movie "Skirts" has been put on hold". As such, she's already working on her 3rd album and has demoed at least 19 songs. Ah, more music to keep us longing souls happy .... Needless to say, I've been a very very happy camper these past few days what with (expecting) the latest DGIF issue within the last 7 to 10 days and receiving more information on Debbie Gibson merchandise. Well, just to let you guys know (if you haven't already received it yet), She's out!!! Henry (DGIF 6491) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Amin Kamadoli (kamadoli%castor.usc.edu@usc.edu) On the eve of the release of the NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK dolls and with tons of other crap in the stores...MTV has banned NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK from any airplay...no more video airplay! I just learned of this as of today. MTV spokesman claims that NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK videos are not "music." They are "marketing tools" for promotion of all their products. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Debbie herself is guilty of this too. Make-up + nailpolish, perfume, biography, up-coming ELECTRIC YOUTH Clothing and designer HATS, and rumors of the DEBBIE GIBSON doll make Debbie a candidate for MTV's next rejection. MTV already rejected "We Could Be Together." I never heard a reason. Plenty of songs are in rotation on MTV even though they haven't even entered the HOT 100 chart for several weeks...WCBT reached the 70's..no MTV! Perhaps she has already fallen into the category of "abuse of music video." In any case, she must be stopped from releasing her clothes and hats. This will only hurt her. Also coming out are: Compilation of EY videos, the EY concert video, another album, etc. Her videos will definitely be labeled as marketing tools and not music. SOMEBODY SAVE HER. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Amin Kamadoli (kamadoli%castor.usc.edu@ucs.edu) TOWER PULSE (from latest issue). ATTN, FAN CLUB FANS Do you belong to a fan club?.... We want to know more about these clubs. How did you find out about them? How much do they cost? Which ones are worth it? How frequently do they send you things? What kinds of stuff have you gotten? Send us some examples, photocopies are OK. Send to READERS, PULSE! MAGAZINE 2500 Del Monte St. Bldg C. West Sacramento, California 95691. This could be our opportunity to get BtL in the spotlight. No one else is going to have a unique club like this one. Also, you could do a segment on DGIF and send in examples. Unfortunately, I have nothing good to say for either club so I won't submit anything. How about you guys? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Matt Jung (ccs013@bullwinkle.ucdavis.edu) POLL TIME AGAIN Matt Jung suggested that we have another poll for the next issue. The poll should will be about our favorite videos. Each participant will be allowed to vote for their first and second favorites. The first favorite will be weighted at 2 points and the second at one point. We could compile and get all the statistics out for the issue after. * All voting must be in by the third Saturday of March for the * April edition. Let's hear your favorite. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- NEXT MONTH Next month is "How I became a BtLer" issue. I want to hear from all of you about your fascination with Miss. Deborah Ann Gibson. I would like all submissions due by the third Saturday of March for the April issue. Regular submissions will also be accepted. Mod notes: I will be out of town for the first two weeks of March all due to work. I will be back on the weekends though. So if you submit during that time, please send a copy of your submission to both Matt Jung and Henry Lee. This will help the further issues of BtL and make things easier for all of us. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
